Design Your Own Product 2 Sell on eBay

You might be thinking I'm not creative enough or artistic enough to make my own products to sell. It's just not true. And if you are too busy you probably know someone who you can form a partnership with by taking care of the eBay part of the business while they make the products. Here is some examples that might get your started in the right direction.

OK first up is this custom made lamp that I made which actually sold on Amazon for $60.00

Nothing crazy. It cost me about $18.oo to make (die cast model, shade, lamp parts and a log that I got for free from my property in upstate NY)

People create all kinds of automobile related items to sell on eBay. Check out these car die cast key chains offered from one seller.

Here is another interesting idea that I love.

Custom made party invitations. Sports, Movies, Music etc.

It was hard for me to post the Yankees as an example because I'm a Mets Fan, but the Yankees are a more popular team worldwide and they sell better. You can create invitations for the hot trend at the time. I would say Justin Bieber is popular with the little ones now.

Door Wreaths:

Silk Floral Wreaths are excellent sellers on eBay consistently selling for $75.00 and up

They are not that hard to make if you have a good eye. A grapevine wreath some silk flowers and a decoration for the center. All sold at Michael's. I would recommend creating a few wreaths first, it might take a little while to build up a following, but once you do you might have a successful wreath design business.

Good Luck

eBay up for Auction - 2 Night Stay at A Christmas Story House

I caught this a little late but this you can win a 2 night stay in the actual house that A Christmas Story was filmed back in 1983. Here is the auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200410691264

A Christmas Story items are hot sellers around the holidays especially replicas of the leg lamp from the movie. Keep an eye out for markdowns of these items right before and after Christmas. You can resell these items on eBay throughout the year. I have done this with great success in years past.

Thrift Store Item 2 Sell - Marmot Ski Clothing

This is the time of year that ski slopes in the Northeast begin their season. So as an eBay seller it is also the perfect time to look for ski clothing to resell on eBay. One the more common brands that I have seen is from a company called Marmot. If you are like me you have probably never heard of them before, so now you know to keep an eye out for them. Also check around for other ski clothing and equipment at your local thrift store.

Here are a couple of my recent completed items that I found at my local Thrift Store. I only like to post my own completed auctions to back up my information.
Jacket was purchased for $6.99 and the pants for $3.99. Not a bad little profit to help me out with expenses around the Holiday season.

Good Luck

Thrift Store Find of the Month Sept. 2009

Though a rare thrift store find, I actually found 2 Mambo shirts in like new condition. Picked up each shirt in the $2-$3 dollar range. A nice little profit on this one. These shirts are big in Australia, the colors are so bright. So keep an eye out for these next time you are at a thrift store, chances are you've probably never heard of Mambo before. Here is a picture of the inside tag. offer free shipping if you do find one because they are very light shirts.

As with most clothing the larger the size usually means a higher price on eBay.

What to look for when buying a thrift store t-shirt to resell on eBay

Thrift stores are great for finding used clothing at rock-bottom prices. One of the best finds at thrift stores are t-shirts. From vintage sports t-shirts to Hollister t-shirts the diversity is unlike anything you will find at your local department store. Here is a how to guide to make sure the shirt is worth buying.
  1. Check it over for stains. The best way to do this is bring the shirt near a window of the store in the natural day light. You can miss stains on darker shirts if you only look under the lights in the store.
  2. Smell under the arm pits. It may sound and look silly when you are doing it, but those smells are hard to get out and just makes the shirt a little less appealing and could effect your feedback once the buyer receives it.
  3. If the shirt is purchased at the Salvation Army, chances are the price tag was stapled onto the front of the shirt. If this is the case make sure the material can withstand the staple removal. The very thin cotton is though to remove without causing a rip in the shirt. The best way to remove the staple is to lift up both sides of the back of the staple up with a knife and gently pull the price tag forward away from the shirt.
  4. Stretch the shirt out and make sure there are no rips on the shirt. The most common places are the seams where the sleeve is sewn to the shirt, the underarms, the collar and the bottom of the shirt.
  5. If there are any loose threads do not worry. You can purchase a fabric shaver for a few bucks at your local drug store (Rite Aid, Walgreen's, etc.) It will easily remove those loose threads and improve the look of your shirt.
  6. After a good wash with a stain fighting laundry detergent, you are ready to list your shirt on eBay.

Good Luck

Thrift Store item to sell on eBay - Harley Davidson T-Shirts

These are not too hard to find at thrift stores. The best place to look is in the black t-shirt section of the store. They usually cost between a dollar or two. I have even purchased a few for .49 cents on half price days.

It amazes me the stuff that I find at thrift stores. I have found Harley shirts in my New York City thrift store representing Harley dealerships from all over the country from Montana to Arkansas. I guess while Harley owners are hitting the open road, along the way they stop at every Harley Dealership to check out the apparel.
I have included screenshots of two of my recent sales. Not too bad for a t-shirt purchased for less than $2.00. If you are avid thrift er you might want to hold on to the Harley tees and list them in a lot when you get a good group of shirts. I have seen lots of 8 used Harley shirts going for $150.00 and up.

Good Luck

Lucky Brand Jeans - Which Ones Should I Buy At Thrift Stores?

Lucky Brand Jeans are probably the most common of the higher end brands that you will see while thrifting. (I'm not counting Gap, J Crew, and Bananna Republic)
I have purchased many a pair of Lucky Brand Jeans to resell on eBay and have had my ups and downs. At first I would not pass on a pair unless it was damaged, but now I only buy certain pairs.

Here is my list of Lucky Brand Jeans that I think are worth buying. Of course there are other pairs that might sell well, but these are the ones I focus in on.
  • "Lil Maggie" Style (check the bottom of the inside tag to see style names)
  • Women's Sizes 14/32, 16/33 & 18/34
  • Men's Sizes 36 and Up (the bigger the better)
  • Lucky Brand Maternity Jeans (Hard To Find)

Another Tip: Stay away from Black Lucky Brand Jeans. They always seem to disappoint on eBay.

Good Luck and post your Lucky Brand Findings.

Thrift Store Item - Vintage Sports T-Shirts

Vintage Professional Sports T-Shirts are great Thrift Store Finds to resell on eBay. As summer approaches everybody wants to look cool in their tight fitting retro tees. T-Shirts usually sell between .99-$2.99 at thrift stores and if you go on half price days JACKPOT!!!!!

Look for vintage team logo shirts and character shirts (jordan, griffey, larry bird, etc.) Championship shirts (for example 1986 Mets, 1991 Bulls) are great sellers.

***You have to be careful with t-shirts, if the material is thin make sure the staples that hold the price tag on the shirt did not cause a hole*** Sometimes it is hard to tell until you get home but it is worth the risk.

As with all thrift store items especially t-shirts check them over 2-3 times before you buy. Check under the arm pits and near the neck for rips.

Check out some of these completed listings. And remember if you find some great vintage sports shirts let me know so I can post about your finds and I will take 50% of all profits for the tip. Just Kidding.

Item to Buy on eBay - $15 UPS Coupon from Staples

Here's a good item to buy on eBay if you ship packages using UPS.

Members of the Staples Reward Premier Program (those who spend over $1,000/year at Staples) recently received 1 Free UPS Shipping Coupon up to $15.00 in the mail. Of course they are showing up on eBay. This is a great deal if you use them for some of your heavier UPS packages. They are selling for around $5.00 on eBay usually with Free Shipping or $1.00 shipping at most. So if you have something that costs over $10.00 to ship you can make a few extra bucks on your shipping costs. Or you can offer free Shipping on a heavier item and drive more traffic to your eBay Listing.
The coupon doesn'texpire until 12/31/09 so you have plenty of time to use them.
